Happy Friday! We made it through another week, which is reason to celebrate! I think I’ll go mix myself a drink…
Another random assortment of thoughts on this Friday:
If you follow me on Instagram, you already know that our pumpkins started coming up this week. This makes me so happy – we were holding our breath that they’d grow since Joe sprayed something on the garden last year that prevented anything from growing in our garden. Our tomatoes that we planted several weeks ago area still doing well too, so I’m hoping we can keep everything alive. I love decorating with all of the pumpkin varieties in the Fall and it’s one of my favorite things to watch them grow all summer long – and the kids enjoy it to which makes it a fun family project.
It’s supposed to be crazy hot this weekend (like 100 degrees hot), so I’m hoping to enjoy some lake time with the family. We never seem to have time in the summer to spend a lot of time at the lake, so it’s fun to squeeze it in whenever we can. If you need me Saturday afternoon/night, you’ll likely find me at the lake with a drink in my hand relaxing! This is the first summer where I don’t have to worry about the safety of my kids in the water – Ashton proved to me last weekend that he’s very self sufficient at the lake with a life jacket. I think he went down the water slide into the lake at least 20 times and swam back to the dock while I watched from the patio. I’m SO excited to actually be able to relax and actually enjoy the lake this summer!
I think we’re halfway through ball season – not that I’m counting – but actually I am! We are 100% into game mode, and have games 3 or 4 nights a week, and typically one of the girls has at least one practice thrown in there too, so we spend most of our evenings at the ball park. It’s fun and I enjoy watching the girls play, but definitely look forward to ball being over and having our evenings free again. Somehow I’m sure those evenings will quickly be filled with some other activity (probably walking the 4H pigs which are currently being neglected due to this crazy ball schedule).
All of a sudden my 4 year old seems like a big boy. I’m not sure when it happened, but this week it hit me. There is a buzzer/door bell at daycare to get in the front doors, and all year he hasn’t been able to reach the button. This week he reached up and pushed the door bell with no problem – he was so excited (and so was I because otherwise he makes me lift him so he can be the one to push the button – because all hell breaks loose if I even think of touching that button!). After proving he’s a very capable swimmer and learning to ride his bike without training wheels last week, he’s showing that has no use for me anymore. I’m sure all too soon he’ll be hopping on that school bus for Kindergarten! Now, if only he can figure out how to get up and ready for daycare in the morning without an hour long fight…a girl can dream right?!?
What’s with this “make your own slime” craze lately? I feel like it’s everywhere and my kids keep asking to make it. So – it’s hopefully on my agenda for this weekend. But I need your help! Have you made it and is there a good recipe that isn’t going to make a huge mess?? My OCD personality can’t handle projects that make a total disaster which is why I’m dragging my feet a bit on this one! Help!
Have a good weekend – and stay cool!
Today I’m linking up with Andrea and Narci to share my Friday Favorites!
On Monday, Jayde had her 1st grade field trip to the zoo, and I got to go along as a chaperone. It was a hot one (90+ degrees) but we had a lot of fun anyway. The misters along the sidewalk were our best friend after lunch! It’s always a fun time to get to spend special one on one time with her!
We’ve started walking Danika’s 4H pigs daily this week, and that’s been a favorite of mine to watch her really enjoy doing it. The first walking experience was an adventure, but it’s been really fun every other day. We all find it kind of therapeutic to let them out and walk them around for 10 minutes each evening. Danika does way better with them than the rest of us…we’ve decided it’s because of her calm personality. They never take off running for her like they do for Joe and I – but I consider walking them a form of exercise, and having to run after them is just a way to burn a few extra calories:)
Summer vacation started for the girls on Wednesday – it’s crazy how fast the year went! I now have a 2nd and 4th grader (and I think that makes me officially old!). We can’t wait for late summer nights, lots of swimming and camping!
Jayde was awarded the Raider Award for her class – it’s an award given to just one kid in each class….she was so excited and we are so proud of the good student and classroom helper that she is!
We’re hoping the weather clears up this weekend so we can go camping again this weekend through Memorial Day. It’s been a cold, rainy few days and it looks like it will continue for the next couple of days. Have a great weekend!
Today, I’m linking up with Erika, Narci & Andrea to bring you my Friday Favorites. I have no life altering products to share this week, but rather a compilation of some of my FAVORITE moments this week!
A friend sent an extra Kiwi Crate craft project she received in the mail from her son home with me last weekend. My girls absolutely loved putting it together (it came with all supplies and instructions on how to assemble). They spent a couple hours working on it and needed no help from me (extra bonus!). Their end result was awesome and they had so much fun working together on the project. (For some reason I can’t get the picture from this fun project to load on my computer, so you’ll just have to imagine how wonderful it is:)
On Monday, the girls had track and field day at school. Joe’s mom was able to come up and spend the day there, and since I was working she offered to take Ashton with her. The girls were so happy they were there and I was happy to receive the pictures and videos throughout the day! Win, win for everyone!
We had some rain on Wednesday throughout the day, so softball practice was cancelled for the night…we were all happy because that meant we actually got to be home with no plans for one night this week (this meant the girls were glued to their iPads since they don’t usually have time during the week to play on them)!
We’re going to attempt our first camping trip for the year this weekend…hopefully all goes well!
Today, I am linking up with Erika, Narci and Andrea to share my Friday Favorites. I’ve got a few random things today:
I found out about the Wet Brush a couple years ago. After trying it out, I went out and bought two of them. My girls both have long hair and it was always hard to brush through after baths/showers because it was tangled and they always complained regular brushes hurt. The Wet Brush is amazing! It’s so easy to brush through their hair (and mine) after swimming, showers, etc. I think they come in various sizes. It’s been a life saver at our house!
My mom gave all of the ladies in our family these Turbie Twists for Christmas last year. At first I thought it was kind of a joke and something I’d never use, but once I tried it I was hooked! I have really thick hair that takes a long time to dry, and this helps cut down on my blow drying time in the morning. After I get out of the shower, I put my hair up in this and it really helps take the moisture out of my hair before I blow dry it. It’s also nice to have my hair out of the way while putting on makeup, etc.
Ashton had his first school (preschool) picture recently and we got them back this week. How grown up does my little man look?!? One of my favorite things is to see how my kids grow from year to year – it’s always so fun to look back at these pictures!
The weather here is supposed to be AMAZING this weekend so we’ll be spending it outdoors I’m sure! Have a great one!
Today I am linking up with Erika, Narci & Andrea to share my Friday Favorites. Here we go:
We had a fun Easter weekend. Saturday we had a family Easter and the weather was amazing. We got all of the kids together for a picture at the park before the day was over.
Sunday we were able to spend the day at home. The kids slept in a bit and then they found their Easter baskets and hunted eggs around the house.
We spent the rest of the day doing outside work since the weather was amazing! We got the cars cleaned out, got the camper out, cleaned and ready for the season and did a little yard work. We rarely have a day at home, so we took full advantage!
Another favorite for this week is that Danika picked out her 4H pigs over the weekend. She’s been so excited to show pigs this year, but I was a little worried when she got into the pen of pigs that she would freak out. She and Jayde were both really into it (Jayde even more so than Danika which surprised us all!). We ended up with 4 pigs that we will get in a couple of weeks. Stay tuned to see how this project goes….I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t a little nervous about this!
I’ve tried all sorts of workouts over the past few years including Jillian Michaels and 21 Day Fix DVD’s, Jazzercise, etc. I joined Beachbody on Demand back in February and it’s been amazing being able to workout at home each morning and having a ton of various workouts to choose from. They often run specials (when I signed up it was an all access pass for $99/year). This gives me access to any Beachbody workout (there are a ton!) whenever I want, wherever I want. I like the variety and the fact that I can choose a workout that is 10 minutes or an hour depending on how much time I have. It’s my favorite way to workout – in my house, on my own time frame!
My final favorite this week is my Yeti Tumbler. I literally have this thing with me everywhere I go! I love that I can fill it up before work in the morning and my water stays cold (with ice!) all morning. I sometimes use it for hot chocolate and it stays warm forever. As the weather warms up, this will be great to take boating, camping, etc. because my drinks will stay cold even when its 100 degrees outside. If you need a good gift idea for Mother’s Day, Father’s Day, graduation, etc. this is a great one!
Have a great weekend!
